ARCA: Mitchell Team Fast Again in the Draft; Gus Dean Leads Lone Talladega Practice

Bluffton, South Carolina’s Gus Dean, in the No. 98 GREE-Cab Installers Chevrolet, was the fastest in ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards practice Friday morning at Talladega Superspeedway.

Dean circled the 2.66-mile superspeedway in 50.822 seconds, an average speed of 188.422 mph. Dean’s looking to rebound after getting caught up in the early-race, multi-car wreck at Daytona back in February. Mason Mitchell Motorsports, the team that Dean drives for, completely rebuilt the car that got wrecked at Daytona in time for Talladega.

2014 Talladega winner Tom Hessert was second quickest at 188.278 in the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Toyota, followed by Brady Boswell (Cunningham Motorsports), Chase Briscoe (Cunningham Motorsports) and Will Kimmel (Kimmel Racing) the top-five.

Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell (group qualifying) is next here at at 2:30 p.m. local Central time. Cars will be grouped according to practice speeds. Each group will have four minutes to qualify. Currently, 35 cars are unloaded in the ARCA garage in preparation for this afternoon’s 54th running of the General Tire 200 at Talladega, live on FS1 at 5:00 p.m. local Central time.

All on-track activities today will also be featured in live timing and scoring and live chat at will also feature live audio of all the ARCA action today from the track, including live flag-to-flag coverage of the General Tire 200 at Talladega.
