WATERFORD, Conn. — NASCAR officials released a statement on Thursday morning regarding the New London-Waterford Speedbowl, following the recent arrest of track owner Bruce Bemer.

The statement included cancelling the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event on July 22 and terminating the NASCAR sanction at the three-eighths-mile Shoreline oval.

“NASCAR has terminated the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series sanction and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race sanction with the New London-Waterford Speedbowl, effective immediately,” the statement read.

The Whelen Modified Tour has had many races in its history at the Speedbowl — including the most recent in May of 2016 — a race won by Danny Watts Racing driver Ron Silk.

The NASCAR Whelen-All American Series program includes the SK Modified division, which has helped Keith Rocco stay involved in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship chase.

As of now, the New London-Waterford Speedbowl still has the upcoming season schedule posted on their website, including their opening weekend with the Modified Touring Series.
